San Diego Restaurant Week
San Diego Restaurant Week occurs twice per year, including over 100 local restaurants scattered across San Diego. They offer special pre-fixed menus that serve multiple courses for lunch, dinner and sometimes brunch. Taking place this year from Jan. 25 to Feb. 1, it is an opportunity to try restaurants at lower prices and support local businesses, without worrying about what to order. Restaurants that participated last year and are returning are: North Italia, Rustic Root, Glassbox and Aqua Mare.
San Diegan Renee Brogan dined at Aqua Mare, an Italian restaurant that served dinner.
“It was an amazing experience,” Brogan said. “Every dish was outstanding, the staff was impeccable, and Laura, the owner, always makes you feel genuinely at home. It was an unforgettable dining occasion we can’t wait to repeat.”
San Diego Museum of Arts 100 Years
SDMA is celebrating 100 years of art and community since its founding in 1926, with a special exhibition of the museum’s documents and photographs from its establishment. This showcase begins on Jan. 24 and will be alongside the exhibition Local Visions: Reimagining the Facade, featuring artwork by local artists. Entry is free for those 17 years and under, and tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for 65+ years.
Vera Liu (10) takes inspiration from the exhibits.
“I hope to attend this year and see the art on display,” Liu said. “They have really cool exhibits I’m excited to see.”
San Diego International Jewish Film Festival
For the 36th year, this film festival features over 30 films at the Jewish Community Center from Jan. 24 to Feb. 4. The San Diego Center for Jewish Culture organizes the festival, which illustrates a diverse selection of films, including feature films, documentaries and short films. These provide cultural insight and community engagement of the Jewish community. Some films are complementary, while others charge $20.
Gabbi Earne (10) will return to attend the festival this year.
“This will be my second year attending the film festival,” Earne said. “I really enjoyed it last year, watching a variety of shows. These films create a community where we all gather around and connect to our culture.”
