Coming back to the Falconer with fresh ideas and a foreign perspective, Reese Carsley is ready to make up for lost time! After an enlightening year studying abroad, she finds herself hoping to bring elements of what she’s learned to the newspaper and make her voice heard. After two years on the Falconer, one as a staff writer and one as a foreign correspondent, Reese is ready to step up as the News Editor. As someone who loves educating those around her and working with a team to stay up to date with current events, this position is perfect for her. She is looking forward to stirring up some change in the newsroom this year and working closely with staff writers on more investigative pieces. If Carsley isn’t editing a story on her computer, you can find her swimming at the beach with some friends, practicing morning yoga or going on a run with her dogs. She is heavily interested in her community and helping those within it, so you can find her comforting her peers or working at the crisis help line. Carsley cannot wait to kick senior year off strong, and while the Falconer is going to be one of her hardest goodbyes, she knows this year is going to be her best one yet!
What started for Lana Weber as a passing interest in writing has evolved into a full blown passion for telling other people’s stories. As she embarks on her junior year and second year on staff, she’s excited to take on the role of Feature Editor for the first time. Weber is most looking forward to connecting with and befriending new staff members, as well as continuing to improve the paper. Weber is beyond grateful for the opportunity to take a bigger leadership role within the Falconer, and is committed to creating an encouraging and welcoming environment for both new and old Falconers. In her free time, she enjoys reading fantasy books, watching TV with her parents while wrapped in a cozy blanket and spending time with her favorite cousin and toddler in the entire world. Outside of her home and school, Weber can often be found at the barn hanging out with her horse Ozzy and her teammates. As someone who loves dancing with friends at concerts or turning up melancholic tunes during long car rides, Weber strives to fill her days with music from her favorite artists, such as Phoebe Bridgers, Boygenius, Noah Khan, Slow Pulp, Role Model, Lorde and so many more. One of her goals for this year is to create more balance in her life within her packed academic and athletic schedule, as well as spend more time doing the things she loves with the people she loves. She also hopes to delve deeper into her passion of animal science, and wishes to become a stronger writer through her work on the Falconer.
As a literature-obsessive, art-consuming, scatter-brained polyglot, sophomore student Gabriela Morillo Dal Piccol—known to most as Gabi—has always highly valued and recognized the power of words. Writing has been a long-time passion of hers, and she finds solace in the pages of books and the flow of ink on paper. Likewise, art has also been a constant outlet and inspiration for Gabi, and she hopes to pursue a design-based career in the future. Taking Beginning Journalism freshman year opened the gateway into an opportunity that would allow her to optimize and exercise both of her artistic assets. This is her first year working on the Falconer as a writer and graphic designer. When not studying at the library, Gabi can be found immersed in fictional chronicles, working on a new art project, blasting music in her headphones or indulging in shows she is clearly too old to be watching (e.g. Bluey, among others). She is extremely excited to contribute to the Falconer this year in both creative aspects and cannot wait to see how she will grow alongside the publication and its staff.
