Memorial Day activities in San Diego

Every year, the United States celebrates Memorial Day on the last Monday of May in order to remember and honor the military personnel who died during their service to the U.S. Armed Forces. Numerous local museums, monuments and establishments take this time to offer ceremonies and activities to the public in order to recognize the contributions of these service members to the country. Here are some events taking place in San Diego this Memorial Weekend.

Arts Fest: 'Futuristic'
Outside of room 15, a coffee shop comes to life during passing periods, and in the morning before school. Organized by the Special Education Program, high schoolers and staff members lined up to order $1 hot drinks, while behind the table student baristas greeted customers and handled payments.

By the time she was 15, Emily Chao had already moved across the country five times. Out of Sunnyvale, Calif., Miami, Fla., Burlingame, Calif., Basking Ridge, N.J., and San Diego, Calif., she considers the latest to be her favorite place to call home. What could ever top the beach, good weather, and great food? Writing has always been a passion for Chao, and she is very excited to share her voice on the Falconer in her first year on the paper as a junior. Other than writing and plowing through schoolwork, you’ll find Chao reading (who would have known?), playing beach volleyball, spending time with family and friends, and training for her next triathlon.
