Students and staff are now able to purchase their class shirts, limited edition and TPHS 50-year anniversary merchandise, all designed by ASB Commissioners’ of Sales, Ava HeSchenk (11) and Tyler Suhar (11).
The new position was created at the end of last year allowing ASB Accounting Assistant, Heather Dugdale, to collaborate with HeSchenk and Suhar, and create trendy and fashionable merchandise to catch the eyes of students and staff. Prior to the incorporation of the new position, Dugdale was responsible for designing merchandise, running the student store, accounting for ASB finances and assisting students.
HeSchenk and Suhar started helping Dugdale at the start of the year school with tasks, such as making new websites, designing clothing, helping with inventory and assisting Dugdale during busy school events like Back to School Night (BTSN). On BTSN, HeSchenk and Suhar had a booth where they were able to advertise a variety of items. They are also playing a key role in marketing the student store, especially by advertising their new Instagram. While actively updating and creating new websites, merchandise is now able to be shipped directly to homes in order to avoid possible overstocking in the student store. The new directory website should be up and running within the next few weeks, according to Suhar. In the future, HeSchenk and Suhar also plan to distribute google forms to students to see what types of designs they would like to see implemented.
“It has been really fun working with both Ava and Tyler,” Dugdale said. “They have jumped in with both feet and they are so creative and so excited, and that is one of the things that has been really nice.”
This year, the limited edition merchandise consists of everything from hats to slides. One of the most notable sweatshirt designs looks similar to that of a White Fox hoodie with its bubbly letters on the front and back.
“[The limited edition store] just opened, so we’ll see how many people buy it,” Suhar said. “But it looks pretty cool so far.”
The TPHS 50-year anniversary merchandise involves a retro look with an old school font. Sales include sweatshirts, shirts and hats.
“Because this is Torrey Pines 50 year [anniversary], this will be their fiftieth graduating class, Mr. Coppo wanted to do special retro designs that were designed by some folks,” Dugdale said.
With a lack of purchases in previous years, an additional decision was made to take the graduation year off the class t-shirts from now on so students would be able to wear them longer, according to Suhar.
“A lot of the stuff right now is cheap on the web store because they are not selling,” Suhar said. “They’re like $10 but they’re nice stuff.”
Currently, most of the older merchandise in the student store is on sale, except for the embroidered hoodies, according to Dugdale. The 50 year anniversary and limited edition merchandise can be purchased through their online store and are not currently sold in the student store.
Next semester, one of HeSheck and Suhar’s goals is to work on older merchandise in the store, like the sports decals.
“My hope is that by having a limited edition web store and the sales commissioners every year, they can add different things,” Dugdale said. “And, they can pick different things and they can take designs that are no longer relevant.”
